If you need some form of silver lining in your week, consider this: writer E. Jean Carroll, who in 2023 was found by a jury to have been sexually abused and defamed by President Donald Trump, has received the 5.6 million dollar judgment she was awarded.
The money had been held in escrow the past three years, but Carroll's lawyer confirms payment was received this week. The judgment was upheld by the Supreme Court.
This is a civil judgment, and not the jail sentence Trump deserves. But the important thing to take away from this latest development - other than the President of the United States is a rapist and his party doesn't care - is that a woman Trump abused took him to court, and won. After twice surviving impeachment and receiving an unconditional release after his felony convictions, he has finally been, in some small but notable way, held accountable.
